Fundación Ecosistemas Secos de Colombia  (ESC) is leading the gathering and data cleaning of the floristic information of the Colombian Dry Forest. ESC is a nongovernmental organisation with a mission to promote the conservation, restoration and sustainable management of natural ecosystems, with special emphasis on dry ecosystems. The ESC programmes, delivered by an interdisciplinary group of researchers, in biodiversity inventory, ecology, ethnobiology, economic biology and environmental management, aim not only to improve the conservation of Seasonally Dry Tropical Forests but also the quality of life of local people.

ESC has experience in development of biological and socioeconomic knowledge tailored to conservation efforts. It is a leader in planning efforts to declare new protected areas of dry forest in the Colombian Caribbean. At the same time the NGO is advancing in studies of functional diversity of dry forest plants which can help to understand the impact of different disturbances on forest structure and functionality, useful knowledge for ecological restoration.
