Venezuela

Typical Venezualan dryforest hillside covered in low scrub
As in many other Neotropical countries, dry forests in Venezuela are subjected to a high degree of disturbance by human activities. In fact, a great part of the potential dry forests land is currently occupied either by agricultural fields or urban sites. Their conservation status is aggravated by the fact that only a small percentage (about 5%) of the extant dry forests are within the limits of national parks or other protected areas. Under this scenario, there is no doubt that these ecosystems should be given high priority for conservation.
